Common Gutter Repairs We Handle
Seam resealing is the most frequent repair: factory sealant at gutter joints breaks down after several years of freeze-thaw cycles. A leaking seam drips directly onto the foundation wall below. We clean the joint, dry it, and apply fresh exterior-grade sealant. Re-hanging sagging sections is the second most common job — when hangers pull out of the fascia, the gutter drops and pools water. We re-secure or replace the hangers and re-pitch the section to drain correctly. We also replace individual cracked or crushed runs and reconnect separated downspout joints.
Signs You Need This Service
- Water dripping from a specific point during rain
If you can pinpoint exactly where the drip is coming from, it is almost always a failed seam or a small crack in that section of gutter. That is a repair, not a replacement.
- A section that slopes toward the house
Gutters are installed at a slight pitch toward the downspout. If a section has reversed and now slopes inward, water sits against the fascia and rots it. The hanger has failed.
- Rust staining on the siding or foundation
Rust-colored streaks below a specific gutter section indicate that water has been dripping from that point for a while. The staining tells you exactly where the leak is.
- A downspout that has separated from the wall
Downspout joints and connections to underground drains loosen over time. A separated connection drops water directly at the foundation instead of routing it away.
What Affects the Cost
- Type of repair — seam resealing costs less than section replacement
- Length of the affected gutter run
- Access — sections behind shrubs or against a fence take longer
- Whether the fascia board behind the gutter has also rotted and needs separate attention
When You Do Not Need to Hire Us
If the majority of your gutter system is pulling away from the fascia along its entire length, has multiple cracked or corroded sections, or is more than 20 years old and deteriorating throughout, repair is not cost-effective. We will tell you this before quoting any repairs. We do not do patch work on gutters that need full replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can you repair just one section without replacing everything?
- Yes. Gutter systems are modular. A cracked or damaged run can be cut out and replaced without touching the sections on either side.
- How long does a typical gutter repair take?
- Simple repairs — seam resealing or a downspout reconnection — usually take under an hour. Re-hanging multiple sagging sections or replacing a long run takes 2 to 3 hours.
- My gutter is pulling away from the house. Is that repairable?
- Usually yes, if the fascia board behind the gutter is still solid. If the wood has rotted, the fascia needs to be replaced first. We will tell you which situation you have before starting any gutter work.
